Public Comment & Public Testimony

Meeting agendas are posted at least 72 hours before the start of all public meetings, which usually falls at the end of business on Fridays because most board meetings are scheduled for Monday evenings. In general, there will be a parenthetical notation written after agenda items defining the purpose of the item. Purpose options include, but are not limited to: (recognition), (information), (discussion with possible action) and (action).

The posted agenda will be available on Board Docs (go.boarddocs.com/tx/austinisd/Board.nsf/Public). Hard copies are posted at the entrance of the CAC Building A, 1111 W. Sixth St., and at the entrance of the new AISD Headquarters building, 4000 S. IH 35 Frontage Road.

Two types of public comment sections are scheduled to take place during each regular voting meeting. The section labeled “General Public Comment” will be at the beginning of the meeting and is designed for trustees to hear comments about items not listed on the agenda. The section labeled “Public Testimony” is listed for agenda-specific comments about the items scheduled for action or for discussion with possible action.

Sign up for General Public Comment by phone at 512-414-4411, or in person at the district’s central office at 1111 W. Sixth St.* between 7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

  • *Please note: In-person assistance will be available at CAC (1111 W. Sixth St.) through October, and at the front desk at the new headquarters (4000 S. IH 35 Frontage Road) beginning in November.
  • You may speak on topics that are not listed on the meeting’s agenda during the General Public Comment agenda item at the beginning of the Regular Voting Meeting.
    • Though not required by law, the board will allow up to 10 people to speak on general items not up for consideration.
    • The first 10 people to sign up will be guaranteed to speak, and a waiting list of five people will be taken in case a speaker does not show.
    • To ensure equity of access, individuals may sign up to speak at the General Public Comment portion of a meeting once every three regular voting meetings. This applies to speakers who signed up but did not show up for their meeting; this does not apply to those who were on the waiting list and did not address the board.

Sign up for Public Testimony online, by phone, or in person between 7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
